Grey-brown duck with a white speculum. The ♂ is dark grey with a black tail and rump. The breast, back and flanks are finely marked with black and white. A dark coloured beak and yellow legs. The ♀ is brown-grey black marked, dark coloured beak with orange-yellow flanks. Often one only sees the rump as they dive for food. ⇔ l. 45-55 cm syn. MARECA STREPERA LA: ≈ The ANAS PLATYRHYNCHOS (Mallard) is larger, and the male has a green head.
