Brown mouse with very small ears and a relatively short hairy tail, the tail has two colours with the topside darker. The snout is blunt and it has a rough fur. Mainly active at dawn and night searching green and grain fields for seeds and grasses often on its hind legs. ⇔ hbl. 8-12 cm, tl. 2-4 cm Lives alone or in pairs, in winter in groups. LA: ≈ The MUS MUSCULUS (House mouse) has a longer but bald tail with a pointed snout and larger ears. ≈ The MICROTUS AGRESTIS (Field vole) has darker coloured, longer fur.
