Large fat brown moth with 2 light yellow cross lines on the front wing. The body is hairy and round. The ♂ has red-brown wings with large comb-shaped antennae, the ♀ is more grey-brown with thread-shaped antennae. The ♂ are fast flyers and in daytime and evening looking for ♀ though she is only active at night. ⇔ wsp. 38-68 mm The brown yellow thick haired caterpillars can be up to 80 mm and are often seen crossing forest trails looking for locations to pupate.
