Large black butterfly with tails and white markings on the centre of the rear wings. The undersurface has more white markings for the ♂. Size depends on the climate where they live. ⇔ wsp. 80-100 mm The ♀ has 3 variations: PAPILIO POLYTES CYRUS: Like ♂, but with clearly red-orange half moons. No photo available. PAPILIO POLYTES STICHIUS: rear wing has orange and red markings. See photo. PAPILIO POLYTES ROMULUS: rear wing large red markings and front wings have a white haze. See photos.
