The ♂ is black with large white dots, sometimes appearing to be blue. The ♀ is black-white edged, pattern differs per region. Both genders have a black bottom with a white marked edge on the front wing and smaller marked rear edge. The ♂ is very territorial and often damaged. ⇔ wsp. 65-95 mm syn. Blue moon butterfly
