A small body with large translucent wings. The body is grey-black with yellowish lines on the rear. The wings are held tent shaped over the body. The ♂ makes a "tjirp" sound, the ♀ does not. Lives of the tree and plant sap. Larvae live below the surface, once grown they climb a branch to hatch from their old skins as adult cicadas. ⇔ l. 23-38 mm The smallest singing cicada in Europe.
