A spider-like creature with 8 long legs and a round body. The back and legs are light grey-brown, the belly is white. The ♂ has large pincers to catch its prey and on its back a faint dark marking. The ♀ has stronger markings. Prefers open areas and gardens, active in the daytime. Feeds on insects, woodlice and plants. Can shed legs when threatened, the dropped legs keep moving for a while to distract the attacker. The legs grow back. ⇔ l. 4-7 mm There are several subspecies all with head and body combined and only 2 eyes. No web. LA: ≈ The PHOLCUS PHALANGIOIDES (Skull spider) is a real spider waiting on its web for prey.
