Large thin fly with marked wings and a long snout. On the thin yellow-brown rear section there is a dark intermittent stripe, the under surface is lighter coloured. The large eyes have a green shine, the grey breast has lighter stripes. The upper legs are yellow, becoming black at the foot end. The brownish wings have dark markings. Prefers deciduous forest, often seen on poles and trunks with the head pointed downwards and stretched front legs. ⇔ l. 10-16 mm
