Small brown spider with a blunt head, brown-grey front body and a wide yellowish central line of hairs. The light brown rear end has faint dark markings as do the legs. The ♂ is darker coloured than the ♀. Active on warm sunny days, on rainy days it hides beneath leaves and grasses. ⇔ l. 6-8 mm In Europe alone there are more than 90 species of LYCOSIDAE (Wolf spiders) all very similar. They do not make a web but hunt visually using their very good eyes. 4 eyes below, 2 in front and 2 on top. With most species the ♀ takes along the egg cocoon on her back, after hatching the young spiders, which hop off to go their own way after a few days.
