Long stretched yellow-brown to a red-brown body with a pair of plier-like cerci at the end. These cerci are straight on the ♀ and curved and can be as long as the body on the ♂. The wings are folded on the back and rarely used. Eats plants, insect eggs and aphids, lives in moist environments. When threatened the forceps are wielded to pinch, not to sting. ⇔ l. 10-16 mm syn. Common earwig, European earwig The female takes care of both the eggs and the larvae.
