Thick haired yellow orange black hoverfly. Lots of variation in colour and markings but legs always black. Eggs are laid in daffodils and snowdrop bulbs which the larvae eat. Adults feed on the nectar of those flowers. ⇔ l. 11-12 mm syn. Greater bulb fly, Large bulb fly, Large narcissus fly LA: Some similarity with the bumblebees but can hover and is not able to sting.
