Smooth shiny metal black shield. Short feelers with clearly visible forked ends. Eats horse and cow dung. Makes a nest for the eggs within sufficient dung for the larvae. ⇔ l. 19-20 mm syn. TRYPOCOPRIS VERNALIS LA: ≈ The GEOTRUPES SPINIGER (Dor beetle) has grooves along the length of its back shield.
