A large lizard, with spine crest, throat bag with stings and a round scale below the yaw. Colour differs being green, black, orange-brown with a striped tail. Young are often green. Prefers woodland laying on branches near water. Herbivorous though young sometimes eat insects. ⇔ l. 150-200 cm of which 2/3 is tail. syn. Iguana
