The broad front wing is black with white dots with an orange black striped base. The aft wing is black edged orange.The bottom side being similar with white dots on the aft wing black edge. Eggs are laid on the passion flower. Specific for the Heliconius is the broad black front wing and they spent the night in large groups. ⇔ wsp. 42-55 mm syn. Hecale longwing, Golden Longwing, Golden Heliconian Indigenous to Central America.
