Blue-green back, head and wings. A crest on the aft head, white neck and belly with green flanks. The ♀ has green breast stains. The ♂ a rust brown breast. The young look like the females but have white stains on the green wings. Often seen at the waterfront on the lookout for prey. ⇔ l. 29-30 cm
