Round grey to brown snake with smooth scales. At the side of the head a specific dark stripe crossing the eyes. On its back a double row of markings in a zigzag pattern. The belly of young animals is red becoming grey-brown to black. A thin head with a dark stripe over the yellow-brown eyes and a round pupil. This shy snake is rarely seen, hides between plants even when sunbathing, day active. Non-venomous eating insects, mammals and reptiles including other snakes. ⇔ l. 60-75 cm
