Red-brown back, white striped flanks. Belly, face, legs and eye edges are white. Black bands on the tail. Eats seeds and turnips as well as insects and eggs. ♀ and young form colonies where ♂ temporary join. The burrow is sometimes shared with mongoose and meerkat. ⇔ hbl. 20-30 cm, tl. 18-25 cm syn. GEOSCIURUS INAURUS
