Dark grey crocodile with black cross bands and a double crest on its tail. The young are still brown with more pronounced black bands on the tail. At night in the water and in daytime sunbathing. Hunts on mammals and birds that are first submerged to drown. By grasping and then rotating their body meat pieces are torn off, they do not eat every day. The ♀ bury and guards the eggs, after hatching they are carried in the mouth to a safe spot where they take care for several months. ⇔ l. 4-6 m
