A wild sheep with short brown fur. In summer the ♂ is red-brown, in winter dark brown. The belly is white with white markings on the nose and flanks. The horns are corded and turn back into a circle. The ♀ is brown in summer and grey in winter, sometimes with horns that are smaller and slightly curved. Lives in same-sex groups outside mating season. They prefer sloping areas of fields and woodland. ⇔ hbl. 110-130 cm, sh. 65-75 cm, tl. 6-10 cm syn. OVIS GMELINI, OVIS ARIES, OVIS MUSIMON LA: ≈ The ♀ CAPRA IBEX (Steinbock) is very similar but missing the white face and is limited to a much smaller area.
