A mouse with grey-brown back, lighter belly and a ringed, thin-haired uni-coloured tail. Large eyes and ears. Lives in families with a dominant ♂, several ♀ and the young. Passes daytime in a burrow that can be in fields or in buildings. Eats insects and seeds. ⇔ hbl. 7-10 cm, tl. 7-10 cm If the population becomes too large the ♀ lose their fertility. LA: ≈ The APODEMUS SYLVATICUS (Woodmouse) is a little larger and comparably larger eyes and ears, difficult to separate though. ≈ The MICROTUS ARVALIS (Common vole) has a shorter and hairy tail. ≈ The MUSCARDINUS AVELLANARIUS (Hazel dormouse) has thick hair on its tail.
