Long thin body with red-brown fur, on the throat a yellow to orange marking and a dark nose tip. Lives alone in woodland preferring older trees with cavities; a habitat with sufficient prey such as squirrels. It eats fruits and nuts as well. ⇔ hbl. 36-56 cm, sh. 14-15 cm, tl. 17-28 cm syn. Pineten, Baum marten, Sweet marten LA: ≈ The MARTES FOINA (Beech marten) is smaller and lighter in colour, the breast marking is white and with a lighter coloured nose.
