Long slim body with rough grey-brown fur, short legs and a semi-circular marking on the throat. Mainly active at night and adapts easily, lives in burrows or houses and sheds. Hunts for mammals but can eat fruit as well. They are known to gnaw on engine cabling. ⇔ hbl. 40-48 cm, sh. 11-12 cm, tl. 24-26 cm syn. Stone marten, White breasted marten LA: ≈ The MARTES MARTES (Pine Marten) is lighter in colour and the throat marking is more yellowish and more circular.
