The upper surface is dark brown, without markings for the ♂, the ♀ has an orange marking on the larger front wing. The under surface is dark orange with a white-edged darker coloured band. Body and legs are light grey. A small tail on the rear wing. ⇔ wsp. 28-33 mm LA: ≈ The SATYRIUM ILICIS (Ilex hairstreak) has an intermittent white band on it's under surface. ≈ The SATYRIUM SPINI (Blue spot hairstreak) has only one white stripe on its under surface.
