Upper surface dark blue, the ♂ has a wide dark to black edge, the ♀ has a dark brown edge on the front wing and the rear wings completely brown. The under surface is green-grey with a well defined white stripe and just in front of the rear wing tail, a small orange eye. Widespread in both forest, meadows and heath. Is already active in early spring. ⇔ wsp. 28-33 mm syn. FAVONIUS QUERCUS, QUERCUSIA QUERCUS Most small hairstreaks have a tail and can only be told apart by pattern or colour details.
