The upper surface is dark brown, the ♀ has an orange marking on the front wing. The under surface is light brown with a line of intermittent white markings, on the rear wing a second line along the edge with orange markings as well. A small white tail with sometimes a blue marking. Prefers oak. ⇔ wsp. 28-32 mm Often Hairstreaks have small tails at the rear wing.
