The upper surface is dark brown with an orange marking along the edge with a white fringe. The body has a blue glow. The under surface is beige with white-edged black dots, along the edge orange markings with a black dot. A green caterpillar with red side and back stripes, light hairy. ⇔ wsp. 22-27 mm syn. ARICIA PLEBBEIUS LA: Many ♀ of this family have a brown upper surface, the markings on the under surface are specific for the species.
