Red-brown bird of prey with a grey-white head, forked tail and a white wing marking on the under surface visible in flight. Feeds on small mammals and carrion and is a very able flyer, it drops quickly to catch its prey. ⇔ l. 56-62 cm Is known as the most elegant bird of prey. LA: ≈ The BUTEO BUTEO (Buzzard) varies in colour which can be similar but has a round tail.
