Slim dark bird with crescent-shaped wings, chin is lighter in colour and has a forked tail. Legs are extremely short and it has a large wingspan: 45 cm! Immature birds can stay aloft for 3 years and breeding starts only from the 4th year. ⇔ l. 16-17 cm It is a migratory bird that winters in Africa and breeds in Europe. It feeds, periods of sleep and mating on the wing.
