Penguin with a black back, face and white belly with small black markings. On the breast, a horseshoe-shaped black stripe, sometimes double. It has a pink bald spot above the eyes towards the beak. This is the only penguin breeding in Africa. Penguins can not fly but are very able swimmers, their wings have developed to fans and their webbed toes are used as a rudder while swimming. ⇔ l. 60-70 cm syn. Black-footed Penguin, Jackass Penguin LA: ≈ The SPHENISCUS MAGELLANICUS (Magellanic Penguin) lives in South America.
