Matt black bird with yellow beak and eye ring indicates the ♂, the ♀ is brown with stripes on the throat and speckles on the belly. Young look like females. Enthusiastic singers from high lookout places like treetops or rooftops, mainly in spring. There are several nests a year and while the ♂ still feeds the young that have just fledged the ♀ is already breeding on the next nest. Often seen in parks and gardens but it stays alert and quickly flies away when alarmed. ⇔ l. 23-29 cm The national bird of Sweden. LA: ≈ The TURDUS TORQUATUS (Ring ouzel) has a light breast marking with scaled breast/belly feathers.
