Grey pigeon with pinkish breast, with one green and two white neck markings. A white crescent is visible on the wing, wing tip and tail blending from dark grey to black. The underside of tail features a white band. Beak has a white base and pink yellow tip. Both genders are same, young are paler and without the white neck markings. Flies with a lot of noise but is a strong flyer, well able to escape predators with sharp turns. Feeds in flocks on grain fields or feeding places in parks or squares. ⇔ l. 41-45 cm Largest pigeon of west Europe.
