Long black wasp with long red legs and long antennae. ♀ has an ovipositor (to lay eggs) longer than her body. Found mostly alongside forest edges. The ♀ uses its antennae to search for rotting trees where she drills into wood looking for beetle larvae to place her eggs. The larvae feed on these beetle larvae and pupate in the wood before taking to the air. ⇔ l. 20-35 mm
