Black red striped bug, the back shield is orange-red with black stripes, the belly is orange-red with black spots. The legs and antennae are black. The young are brown-grey colour. The colour acts as a defence mechanism warning that they taste bad. Mainly found at forest edges and moors or on parasol flowers. When cloudy it stays hidden, for example under tree bark. ⇔ l. 8-12 mm syn. GRAPHOSOMA ITALICUM LA: ≈ GRAPHOSOMA SEMIPUNCTATUM which has orange legs and spots on the head instead of stripes.
