Greenish brown frog with indistinct colour patterns, 2 well defined back veins, long hind legs with brown bands. The eardrum behind the eyes is triangular shaped and as large as the eye. Prefers forest edges and pools, very able jumper, has a distinct sound from below the water surface. ⇔ l. 7-10 cm syn. RANA GRACILIS Rare in northern Europe where they are smaller as in southern Europe. LA: ≈ Resembles the RANA ARVALIS (Moor frog) and RANA TEMPORARIA (Common frog), sounds more scratchy and has longer hind legs.
