Large green frog, colours from olive brown to grey. Often a lighter stripe on the back. A wide head, the eardrum behind the eye is a different colour. The vocal sac is grey to black, the croak sounds like a laugh. ⇔ l. 10-15 cm syn. RANA RIDIBUNDUS LA: ≈ Easy to confuse with the RANA LESSONAE (Pool frog) and RANA ESCULENTA (Edible frog); the difference is in the sound, vocal sac colour and size. The marsh frog is the larger.
