Long slim yellow-brown mongoose with a white tail tip. The colour varies from yellow to red-brown and there is a grey variety without the white tail tip. Lives in colonies, sometimes together with ground squirrels or meerkat. Searches for food far away from its burrow and uses temporary hiding places on the food areas. Prefers open terrain. ⇔ hbl. 35-40 cm, tl. 28-30 cm syn. Red meerkat
