Orange to an ochre-coloured top surface with grey-brown wing edge and a small spot on the forewing. Hind wing is brown orange. Underside fore wing orange with brown tip and eye, hind wings hairy and greyish brown with a lighter band. Mostly found on heath and grass up to 2000m altitude. The caterpillar feeds on grasses. ⇔ wsp. 23-33 mm The butterfly lives for one month, the caterpillar hibernates one winter.
