A white bird with a long spoon-shaped beak, breast is yellow-brown with long black legs. The crest feathers are only present while breeding. The spoon-shaped beak is used to sweep through the water sifting for food. Flies with stretched neck and legs and easy to recognise by its bill shape in flight. ⇔ l. 70-90 cm Migratory bird. LA: ≈ When resting it tucks its beak under the wing and in this posture can be confused with the EGRETTA GARZETTA (Little egret).
