Medium brown house snail, the colour of the body varies from tan to black with usually a slight stripe in the middle, from the head. The spherical shell is slightly shiny with fine wrinkles and has a distinctive colour pattern from black to light brown. Eats vegetables and prefers humid areas, but not too cold. ⇔ l. 50-100 mm syn. HELIX ASPERSA, Brown garden snail Originally from the Mediterranean, but distributed worldwide by humans as food and for collections. LA: ≈ The ARIANTA ARBUSTORUM has a flatter shell with a wider opening. ≈ The HELIX POMATIA (Vineyard snail) is larger, lighter in colour and the thicker shell has a different structure.
