Yellow-black hoverfly, breast is shiny dark to black. The dot at the start of the rear is shiny black. The rear is oval shaped and black yellow striped ending in yellow. The brown wings are darker at the front edges. Found in wet areas like moors or woods with pools. The larvae develop in water. ⇔ l. 14-18 mm LA: ≈ The SYRPHUS RIBESII has a yellow dot at the start of the rear, just behind the breast.
