Small slender butterfly. The front wings are black, orange-red marked with the red surrounded by yellow. The rear wings are orange-red with a thin black edge. The black body has a red band on the rear, 3 segments for the ♂ and 2 segments wide for the ♀. On its shoulder two vague light coloured lines. Sturdy black antennae. Markings can vary and they are day active. Rare species, often seen in groups. ⇔ wsp. 23-26 mm LA: ≈ This family has lots of black-red members, The yellow on the front wings and the red band on the body are specific for this one. ≈ ZYGAENA HILARIS is very similar with less yellow and without the red ring on its body.
