Small, slim brown-orange beetle with a black head and legs. The tips and edges of the shields are greyish-black. The shields of the ♂ are more yellowish and of the ♀ more orange-red. The antennae are as long as the body. The larvae live in dead/rotten wood, the beetle of nectar so it can often be seen on flowers. ⇔ l. 6-9 mm syn. STRANGALIA MELANURA
