Beige, brown lizard with a long stiff tail and large keeled scales. There is no collar (an area in the neck where the scales swap direction) and at the flanks a lighter band. The belly is light coloured. ♂ Can have several blue markings near the front legs, in breeding time they have orange-red and yellow head colouring, this can sometimes be seen at the ♀ as well. The young are lighter in colour, and their tail is more orange-brown. It is well camouflaged and easy overlooked. It prefers dense, spiny shrubs to live in and feed mainly on arthropods like spiders and woodlouse. ⇔ l. 30-45 cm, of which 2/3 is tail.
