A small shiny beetle with straight antennae and a small head with visible mouthparts. The shield has some small indentations and is black with a strong shine (reflection) that can be green, violet or bronze. Day-active and very common both in lowlands and at higher altitudes. Prefers moist soil and hides below leaves or old wood, flies often. ⇔ l. 8-12 mm Is used in scientific studies to analyse pesticide dangers.
